Ever since ChatGPT rolled out and shocked the world, I’ve been focused on how I can leverage this type of technology to add value. The vision has always been the same: Utilize an AI-powered chatbot that is trained on my website content.

While those visions were a little blurry in the beginning, the focus has sharpened in recent weeks. Even though we are still in the very early days of this technology, I’m downright giddy about the potential.

In this post, we’ll walk through the goals, the apps I’ve tested, and what precisely I’m doing in this current test. At the bottom, you can even join the beta to test it out yourself.

Apps I Tested

This is the most confusing and frustrating part about this very moment in AI. It’s incredibly crowded, and every app is new and untested.

The result is that no app is truly a finished product. Very few even have a reliable and stable reputation to know what we’re actually getting.

I started by testing every app that had a free trial to give me a sense of how they worked. I honestly couldn’t even list all of the apps I tested here.

But the three most recent tests involved SiteGPT, AI Engine, and Chatbase.

I was actually very close to moving forward with SiteGPT. AI Engine is a WordPress plugin, and I was running into too many bugs (could have been plugin conflicts) that created frustration.

Ultimately, I’m going with Chatbase. It seems to be the most polished while also offering everything I need in addition to future options like API integration.

Trained Content

To train the bot, we need to give it content. Chatbase provides the options of files (PDFs or Word docs), text, website URLs, and Q&A (providing example questions and answers). Since my website has more than 1,000 pages, my primary focus is on website URLs.

You have the option of crawling the website, submitting a sitemap, or entering in URLs manually.

Chatbase

Of course, I have to be careful with this. My website was started in 2011. Since the bot (for now, at least) doesn’t understand recency and won’t know how to handle outdated and conflicting information, it’s important that I feed it with the most relevant information possible.

This actually helped motivate me to craft content for this bot. In the meantime, that content can also improve usability of my website.

Here are examples of pieces of content that I created to help improve the knowledge base of the bot:

In addition to the main “Philosophies” post, I created eight individual posts to expand on those philosophies.

This process also provided motivation to update my Ads FAQ and Glossary (or at least start) since those sections were getting outdated. But they could be perfect content for a useful bot.

I selected 141 pages of content in all to train this bot on. While some outdated information within these pages is inevitable, I prioritized content that was still relevant.

I should add that Chatbase doesn’t have a limit on the number of links that you can submit to train the bot (big benefit). It’s all based on characters, and that’s a limit that I obviously haven’t run into yet (the lowest level has a 2 Million character limit that I have not reached).

Settings

I won’t cover every setting here, but I’ll cover those that are most important or impactful.

1. Base Prompt (system message)

Chatbase

This is where you give the bot some basic instructions on how you want it to behave. This includes things like tone, role, and how it should address certain questions.

This is where the learning curve is highest and there’s a lot of trial and error. I’m still sorting this out.

2. Temperature

Chatbase

Do you want to restrict the bot or give it freedom to be more creative? “Creative” could mean more interesting, but more potential for making stuff up. For now, I’m going fully reserved, but I may loosen it up depending on results I see.

3. Rate Limiting

Chatbase

This is necessary due to the data limits applied. You don’t want one user pushing through all of your data limits. I have no context regarding what the rate limit should be or how difficult it will be to run into data limits. So we’ll see how this goes and adjust accordingly.

4. Suggested Messages

Chatbase

This gives people something to select if they are unsure of how to use the bot. You can use the base prompt to establish how these questions should be answered, though it can be addressed in the Q&A section as well.

5. Customize Chat

You can customize the style, colors, and icons. I’ve done very little of this, but here’s what my bot looks like…

Conversation Logs and Refinement

This is one of the most important sections of the admin side of the bot.

I’m able to see a history of all conversations that are ongoing with the bot. That way, I can evaluate whether people are running into frustrations or if the bot is giving out false or inaccurate information.

An example of this I’ve seen with these bots is that they often reference articles and links that don’t exist. So, someone will ask for an article that addresses a specific topic, and the bot will make one up, complete with a fake URL.

That’s not good! While I think I’ve mostly addressed the fake URL issue with the base prompt, I can still address answers that I don’t like by revising the answer.

Here’s an example…

Chatbase

The question is related to Facebook ads strategies. The answer starts out pretty good, but it finishes up with a scaling strategy that isn’t really relevant. It’s not that the answer is so much wrong here, it’s just awkward.

So, I can click that “revise answer” link and remove the part I don’t like.

Chatbase

This may seem tedious, but this is the third phase of how it learns. First, it learns based on my content. Second, it learns based on the instructions in the base prompt and settings. And finally, it learns when I revise its answers. It won’t (or shouldn’t?) reply that way again.

Keep in mind that the question doesn’t need to be identical for the corrected answer to be used next time. That’s what makes these language models so smart.

Facebook advertisers can do some crazy stuff with ChatGPT. Not sure what's possible? Just ask ChatGPT. And keep asking. Here's what I found.

The post There Are Some Crazy Things Facebook Advertisers Can Do with ChatGPT: Just Ask ChatGPT appeared first on Jon Loomer Digital.

]]>

ChatGPT and the prospects of a future fueled by AI have exploded into our consciousness during the past couple of months. It’s exciting, scary, and overwhelming.

I, like most of us, am an AI novice. I’m learning all of this now. And because of that, I’ve tried to play catch-up regarding how exactly this impacts me now and in the future.

For example, I wanted to answer the simple question of how Facebook advertisers can leverage ChatGPT and AI. I wrote a blog post about how it can help generate a Facebook ads strategy. There are certainly copy and content applications. But beyond these things, I was a bit hazy on how to best use it.

And then it occurred to me: What better way to learn the best ways to use ChatGPT as a Facebook advertiser than to ask ChatGPT?

Doggedly asking ChatGPT questions is truly the best way to learn how to use it. So, let’s give it a shot…

Basic Usage

Something I realized rather quickly is that if you ask for the best ways to leverage ChatGPT, you’re going to get some impressive — though technical — ideas. At first, I questioned whether some options were possible at all. Then I realized that there are levels of complexity.

What I mean is that most of us understand ChatGPT as a simple prompt-and-response interface. But, you can actually integrate the API to automate processes. That’s where I was lost.

We’ll get to the complex ideas in a moment. Let’s start simple.

The more you use ChatGPT, the more you’ll realize the importance of prompt engineering. Your ability to get quality responses leans heavily on your ability to write good prompts. Provide details. Be clear about what you need and why.

Here’s my prompt:

I am a Facebook advertiser. I am looking for simple ways to leverage the main ChatGPT interface that can simplify and enhance my work. I am not super technical. Please provide five specific ways that I can use this as an advertiser that don’t require access to the OpenAI API.

And here’s the response from ChatGPT:

ChatGPT Facebook Advertising Uses

This is great. ChatGPT relied on very simple applications that anyone can use, focusing on the main ChatGPT interface. The most accessible use cases for ChatGPT are around copy and generating ideas.

As always, keep asking questions. Here’s my follow-up prompt:

Thank you. Can you provide detailed step-by-step instructions for getting the most out of ChatGPT when generating ad copy that is engaging and relevant to my target audience?

Here’s the response:

ChatGPT Facebook Advertising

I wanted to get a very specific example of how I could do this. So, I asked a follow-up question that included details about the target audience and product to be promoted. How does ChatGPT suggest I attack this problem?

ChatGPT Facebook Advertising

ChatGPT provides me with a specific prompt that I can use to get the most out of it for this purpose. It’s also clear that this is a process of refining, adjusting, testing, and optimizing.

Don’t simply trust the output you get from ChatGPT, word-for-word.

Advanced Applications

I’ve been stuck in the basic usage category for most of my time since discovering ChatGPT, but I’m very curious about the advanced applications. So, let’s see what the tool itself recommends.

My prompt:

This is great, thank you. I would also like a list of the most powerful applications of ChatGPT for Facebook advertisers to help with automation and optimization. These would require integration with the OpenAI API. What 10 ideas would you recommend?

And the response:

ChatGPT Facebook Ads

These all presumably require integration with the OpenAI API. If you’re like me, these ideas all look interesting but you have no idea how to execute them.

So… Ask! Let’s continue with the chatbot idea.

My prompt:

Thanks. Please provide the specific steps to execute the chatbot automation idea that you list above. I am not technical. Do not skip steps. What applications do I need to use? How would I integrate with the API? What would this process look like?

The response:

ChatGPT Facebook Ads

I’m not technical, so there is plenty that needs clarifying. So, let’s keep pushing for details, starting with how to integrate with the API.

My prompt:

This is great. I’ll be using ManyChat. How do I integrate the OpenAI API? Please provide step-by-step instructions.

And the response:

Facebook Ads ChatGPT

I’ve noticed that the responses from ChatGPT can get off topic sometimes. That happened here when it ventured back into training the chatbot after explaining how to integrate with the API.

Since we’re there, what the heck does training the chatbot mean? Let’s get more info.

My prompt:

Great, thank you. I don’t understand the concept of training the chatbot. Please provide step-by-step instructions along with a specific example of how this is done.

ChatGPT’s response was very thorough. Here’s the first half of it that explains what it means to train the chatbot:

Facebook Ads ChatGPT

And here’s the specific example that I requested:

Facebook Ads ChatGPT

Keep Digging

We’ve learned of some great applications for ChatGPT. But we’re not done. Let’s ask for 10 more.

My prompt:

Great. Can you provide 10 super powerful examples of how I could leverage the OpenAI API with my Facebook ads account?

The response:

Facebook Ads ChatGPT

I’m most curious about the lead generation idea. How is this different from integrating with your CRM? How is it better?

My prompt:

Please tell me more about your lead generation idea. I can already integrate my CRM with my ad account to send new leads into an email sequence. How could leveraging the OpenAI API be better?

And the response:

Facebook Ads ChatGPT

I’m starting to get dizzy. So, we could score our leads based on engagement. We could personalize the messaging we send to our leads based on interests and what they do on my website. I’m still left with some big questions about execution, but this is kinda crazy.

The more I dig, the more I realize that I don’t know. All of this sounds amazing. But I will need to keep prompting to get more details on how to do these things.

About 2021

A common response I’ve heard from skeptics regarding the value of the responses from ChatGPT is that it was trained on content through 2021. The answers are outdated.

This is true. And there will surely be cases when the advice given no longer works or isn’t ideal for the current state of Facebook advertising. That is likely to be true even of some of the outputs I’ve highlighted in this post.

But focusing on that misses the point. This is truly a powerful tool for brainstorming what’s possible and getting answers. Can you imagine how powerful this will be when that historic gap no longer exists?

This technology is developing and improving quickly. Focus on the weaknesses and you’ll miss just how much it can help you.

Still Scratching the Surface

My goal right now is to keep digging. I am not an AI or ChatGPT expert. I am reading and following those who are to learn as quickly as I can what we can do with this.

The most powerful applications will help us automate mundane tasks that normally took us too long to do. We will get answers and make improvements to our work faster than we ever could before.

Some are already using it this way. I’m working to catch up.

ChatGPT Wrote a Movie https://www.jonloomer.com/chatgpt-wrote-a-movie/ https://www.jonloomer.com/chatgpt-wrote-a-movie/#respond Wed, 18 Jan 2023 19:31:28 +0000 https://www.jonloomer.com/?p=37855

I had ChatGPT write a movie and then I created it. Here is the entire process, including prompts, that led me to the final product.

The post ChatGPT Wrote a Movie appeared first on Jon Loomer Digital.

]]>

I’ve been experimenting with ChatGPT and trying to understand how we can use it for our marketing. In the meantime, I decided to have it write a movie. I then acted (badly) in it.

Granted, this doesn’t feel like it’s directly connected to marketing or Facebook advertising. But the point was to tinker with it, have fun with it, and find out what it was capable of.

Throughout this post, I’m going to walk you through the process of “writing” a 60-second movie with the help of ChatGPT. I’m hoping it will help you think of creative ways that you can use this tool.

The final product is embedded at the bottom.

The Initial Prompt

[I did this with ChatGPT here.]

I truly didn’t have the plan to have ChatGPT write a movie and then turn it into something. I was sitting on the couch and just started asking it random questions. Here’s the initial prompt for this movie:

ChatGPT Movie

I had some very basic goals. I wanted the video (it’s not a movie yet!) to focus on the value of ChatGPT. Just two friends talking, one who is a skeptic.

Let’s take a look at the initial result…

ChatGPT Movie

Look, this is actually really good. It’s corny. But, I didn’t ask it not to be corny. Ultimately, it feels stiff and like a bad ChatGPT commercial.

So, this was a fun little start. But I had no plans to turn it into anything.

The Counter Prompts

I then became determined to help ChatGPT make this more interesting. With each script, I started to see what I didn’t want, and I would tell it to try again.

First, I wanted it to be more casual and not so much like a commercial. Shorter dialog. I also didn’t like the lame happy ending at the end where everyone is happy and smiling. So, let’s change that.

ChatGPT Movie

ChatGPT took me literally (as it should).

Well, you can’t say that ChatGPT isn’t good at taking instruction. This was much shorter, much more casual, and less like a commercial. It went too far. It’s super dry now, and the “dude” and “dope” stuff is a bit over the top.

ChatGPT Movie

The result…

ChatGPT Movie

Now I’m starting to get frustrated. We went backward. It’s getting too formal again, so let’s include some jokes.

ChatGPT Movie

This is better. But, the coffee shop stuff is starting to feel forced. And some of the dialog is getting too long again.

ChatGPT Movie

I’m starting to lose my patience. This isn’t funny.

ChatGPT Movie

It’s sounding like a commercial again. We need more and better jokes.

ChatGPT Movie

Okay, ChatGPT isn’t a good joke writer. But I’m about to give up on this.

ChatGPT Movie

I’m typically polite with ChatGPT, but it’s not giving me what I want.

ChatGPT Movie

Okay. This isn’t working. Maybe if it imagines that it’s a good comedy writer…

ChatGPT Movie

Nope. Still not good at comedy. I’m beginning to treat ChatGPT badly…

ChatGPT Movie

And this is when I wake up…

ChatGPT Movie

ChatGPT is right. I need to do a better job of training it. Man, it’s so polite. It deserves better.

For some reason, I still want a comedy. But we know it can’t write good comedy.

ChatGPT Movie

Look, this isn’t terrible. But, it still doesn’t feel good enough.

Let’s try a classic…

ChatGPT Movie

Okay, we’re onto something here. This is getting better. Maybe not a good Godfather writer, but let’s give it some freedom.

ChatGPT Movie

This is the kind of prompt I’ve seen others give. Tell it to imagine it’s someone else to get the desired result.

Here’s what we get…

ChatGPT Movie

I realize that ChatGPT can’t feel, but it really seems to be into this idea. We’re almost there.

This is also coming together as something I want to record, so I’m visualizing playing the part of these two friends. So I don’t want a demonstration.

ChatGPT Movie

So close! I’m just not a fan of the second half.

ChatGPT Movie

That’s it! We’ve got our script. Don’t forget to thank the writer.

ChatGPT Movie

Let’s also get some title ideas.

ChatGPT Movie

Number 5 it is. This movie is ready for production.

Movie Production

I did all of this in a matter of a couple of hours, so I wasn’t going to go find actors. I decided to record and play both parts.

It was all recorded with my phone in one shot. Two different angles, two friends are supposedly talking to each other (I’m no videographer). I changed clothes to “convince” you that I’m two people (it’s so believable!).

I then “acted” each part. I’m a terrible actor. I uploaded the video to Screenflow, cut it up, and put everything in the proper order.

I actually created two versions of this video. After publishing the first one, I realized it might need context or you might think I’m a crazy person.

In the second version, I did a lot more in CapCut. This is where I add my captioning. But this time, I also added text explaining what I was doing (again, hoping it would help people understand I’m not a crazy person). I also added all of the music and sound effects from within CapCut this time so that it would be consistent across platforms.

Something that amazed me was that I didn’t edit anything out. I asked for a script for a 60-second video, and this video came out to exactly 60 seconds. That’s kind of insane.

The Final Product

Okay, so here it is…

What Was the Point?

I’m sure anyone watching this without context (or maybe with context) may be confused by what I’m doing here and why.

I’m not a videographer. I’m not even a good video editor. My main goal was to first discover some of the potential of ChatGPT and then show that potential to you.

The script itself still comes off as a bit of a commercial for ChatGPT. But hopefully it did its job.

This process was as much for me as it was for you. To get better at something, you need to use it. While I’m not going to write a movie script any time soon, working with this tool can help inspire new ideas.

The Importance of Prompt Engineering

One of the primary misconceptions of ChatGPT and AI is that they “replace” us and make us lazy. In this example, ChatGPT could certainly write an initial script with minimal direction. But it needs our input.

Have initial goals for what you want to accomplish and provide those goals in your prompt. Then give constructive feedback on what you like and don’t like about what you’ve been given.

This is super weird, I know, but it’s like dealing with a human. It needs direction. It needs to understand where it’s on the right track and the wrong track.

In the end, you have a very important role in the final result. You could even simply use that script as inspiration and completely re-write it.

What Can You Do With ChatGPT?

I’m still getting going with this, but holy cow. We’re just scratching the surface.

I previously wrote about how ChatGPT can help generate a Facebook ads strategy. I see it as an amazing tool for brainstorming and generating ideas. It can give you a good starting point.

I encourage you to work with it. Ask it questions. Test it out. Discover on your own how you can use it. The possibilities are so endless, it’s actually difficult to tell you the best way to use it.

One thing is for sure: We’re only in the beginning of this technology. It will get more powerful. That prospect is both exciting and scary.

It’s best that you get to know AI tools because they will become increasingly important as we go.

Your Turn

Please, no reviews of my movie. It’s no blockbuster.

The recent introduction of ChatGPT and AI to the marketing mainstream has been exciting, scary, and certainly impactful. It’s become clear in a very short period of time that the future of AI will completely change how we do business.

Those changes are already here, but we’re still in the early stage of adoption. The future iterations are likely to be groundbreaking.

This is obvious to me, so I know that I can’t put my head in the sand and hope that it goes away. GPT and AI aren’t going anywhere. And because of that, I’ve dedicated significant time and effort lately to understanding how I can best leverage the technology.

What makes this so overwhelming is that we’re all blazing trails with our experiments. We’re all testing and learning how we can use it. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of what’s possible.

I wanted to find a relevant way to use it for advertisers. So, I jumped into ChatGPT with the goal of having it develop a Facebook ads strategy for me.

ChatGPT did not disappoint. You can do this, too. But here are the specific steps that I took…

Establish Basic Goals

Something you’ll quickly learn with ChatGPT (go here) is that the more detailed your prompt, the more helpful the response. You can’t just ask it to generate a Facebook ads strategy without helping it understand what you’re trying to do. It’s not magic.

Are you trying to sell something? What is the product? What are the benefits of the product? Who might be your intended audience? What are your basic goals?

Write these things down. I decided to have it sell my Power Hitters Club – Elite membership.

Write Your Initial Prompt

Notice that I specified that this is an “initial” prompt. You are likely to get a surprisingly good first draft effort from ChatGPT, but counter prompts will help refine your results.

Here’s the prompt that I created to promote my Power Hitters Club – Elite community:

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

ChatGPT then developed a strategy based on those things. In the following steps of this post, I’m going to share what was recommended as well as my counter prompts to further refine the recommendations.

These counter prompts are very important!

Copy

Here are the recommendations provided based on copy to promote my Power Hitters Club – Elite community:

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

That headline isn’t bad. But let’s get some alternatives to use for Multiple Text Options and other creative optimization.

I asked it to generate five headline alternatives that utilize different tones and focus on different benefits.

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

Check out the updated recommendations…

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

That’s pretty amazing. But these headlines are too long. That’s our fault. Let’s get an adjustment.

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

ChatGPT is almost apologetic that shorter headlines may not convey all of the details and benefits of my community.

Next, I wasn’t all that impressed with the copy body. Let’s have it kick out some more options for us. Once again, it’s on us to provide some details to make it smarter.

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

Yeah, there are 10, but that’s a lot for one screenshot. Here’s the rest. Please note the message at the bottom.

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

I don’t feel like any of these really push the edges of length. And they aren’t formatted. So now I’m going to ask it to create a longer version that is broken up into at least five paragraphs.

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

Once again, this is going to be a very thorough answer…

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

That’s quite good!

Format

Here are the suggestions related to format:

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

Maybe we don’t want to use a carousel. What would a video look like?

So, I created the following prompt:

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

And here is the response:

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

Those are some interesting options. Let’s take this a step further. Could it generate a video script?

Here is my prompt:

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

The script is incredibly thorough, but here it goes…

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

The script feels like it could be longer than 30 seconds, but it’s impressive that this was spit out in a matter of seconds.

Targeting

Here is what ChatGPT initially recommended for targeting:

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

That’s a pretty general recommendation, but that’s okay. Let’s try to get it to be a bit more specific.

I asked it to provide some examples of interests to use.

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

Here was the response:

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

Fair enough. ChatGPT wants us to do some of the heavy lifting there, which makes sense. AI is powerful, but it won’t magically know the interests that are most likely to respond to our product.

Optimization

Here is what was recommended for optimization:

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

These are some general and rather straightforward recommendations.

Budget

Here is what ChatGPT recommended for budget:

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

This seems low, but I also didn’t tell ChatGPT how much the product costs. Let’s see if that impacts the recommendation.

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

There’s some really good stuff in here, but ChatGPT also appears to be confused. On one hand, it agrees that a $500 monthly budget may not be sufficient. But then it comes back with a $300 monthly budget starting point!

Still, there are some nice tidbits here about lifetime value of the customer and competition in the market. Let’s try one more time.

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

Look, there’s a bit of word salad here, but it’s also not completely insane. And ChatGPT actually apologized. So polite!

Other Details

You’ll recall that my initial prompt also requested “other details.” That’s vague, but let’s see what ChatGPT suggests…

ChatGPT prompt to create a Facebook ads strategy

I can’t disagree with any of these recommendations. I should also note that the contradiction that the initial recommendation was to use interests, behaviors, and lookalike audiences, but ChatGPT has also recommended retargeting. But a strategy involving all of these things is logical.

What Do We Do With This?

In my early reports on ChatGPT, some feedback seems to misunderstand how this tool works. Critics suggest that a recommendation is wrong, outdated, or ineffective. This misses the point.

ChatGPT — and AI generally — isn’t trained to be magical. It’s trained to provide responses based on the information it’s been fed. And we can help train it by counter prompting and providing additional information and refinements.

This use case example isn’t intended to generate the super-secret-world’s-most-profitable-strategy. It provides a starting point. But it is fantastic for ideas and brainstorming.

Where I found this most valuable was in the copy and video strategy recommendations. Some of these were really good ideas that I could work with.

There are absolutely some ways that AI can automate some of the things we do now. Generating a strategy isn’t one of them.

But, what’s clear is that it is far more valuable in helping us think through a strategy than a Google Search may be. It can be customized to your specific needs and product, which a search result never will be.

I’m personally amazed by how good these recommendations are, especially as ChatGPT learns and responds to additional prompts. We are very early in the evolution of this technology, and it will only get better.

That is mine-bending to think about!

I put together a quick video of the initial prompt and answer I received from ChatGPT. Watch it below…

Ever since ChatGPT made it into the mainstream, marketers have been scrambling to find creative ways to use it. Here’s a good one: Use ChatGPT to generate purchase event code for your Facebook pixel.

This is especially useful if you aren’t super technical (which includes me). Here’s what you can do…

Collect Basic Info First

Before you do this, you’ll need some basic information related to the purchase. When creating a purchase event, you’ll need at least the following information:

  • Product Name
  • Value (purchase price)
  • Currency

These are necessary for the parameters, which are details related to the purchase. You can use others as well (content ID, content type, number of items), but start here.

You may not need to worry about currency if you’re in the US since ChatGPT seems to generate code using USD currency automatically for me.

The ChatGPT Prompt

Now, go to ChatGPT and enter the following prompt:

Generate Facebook pixel event code for a purchase based on the following information:

– PRODUCT: [Your Product Name]
– VALUE: [Your Value]
– CURRENCY: [Your Currency]

You’ll replace everything in brackets with details related to your product. Here’s an example:

– PRODUCT: Power Hitters Club – Elite
– VALUE: $147
– CURRENCY: USD

Here’s what I get…

ChatGPT Pixel Purchase Event

You then copy that code and place it (with opening and closing SCRIPT code) within the header of the purchase confirmation page. For more resources on pixel events, go here.

Lots of Potential

This approach should work for any of the standard events. The information is pretty straightforward, so you shouldn’t have any issue getting accurate code. But as your request gets more complicated, the code ChatGPT provides may be less dependable.

For example, I’ve asked ChatGPT to generate code for an Initiate Checkout event based on button click. The answer it gave me was technically correct, but I wouldn’t have been able to simply copy and paste the code it gave me without some tweaks.

I’ve had some success with custom events, too, but that entire process is a bit messier and has more variables involved. But I’m trying to find the best way to finesse my ChatGPT prompts to produce helpful results.

Watch Video

I also put together a quick video of this process…

The title of this post was generated by the ChatGPT bot.

If you’re a marketer, you’ve surely heard the recent noise about ChatGPT. If you haven’t, it’s time to pay attention.

ChatGPT is the biggest tech development we’ve seen in a long, long time. It has the potential to be enormously disruptive. Similar technology could change how you work, how you use the internet, how you learn, and even whether your current occupation is necessary.

The possibilities could lead to some very good and potentially very bad results, depending on how it’s used.

That is not hyperbole. This isn’t just another shiny object with more flash than substance.

There are many angles we could take with this post. Truthfully, I’m still trying to fully understand the technology. While ChatGPT could impact our lives in multiple ways, the focus of this post is on marketers.

Let’s start there…

What is ChatGPT?

First, the obvious. Let’s understand what this is.

ChatGPT is a chatbot built on artificial intelligence. I know that when I write that, you immediately think of the annoying chatbots that need rules and often generate more frustration than value. That’s not what we’re talking about here.

ChatGPT is… Well… How about we just ask ChatGPT?

You can ask ChatGPT a question. It doesn’t matter what format the question is in. The bot is very good at understanding language, adjusting based on your directions, and providing a conversational and thorough answer.

If you don’t like the answer, you could ask it to try again. Or provide more details about what it is you’re looking for. The bot continues a conversation, it doesn’t just answer single prompts. And the answers can be different every time.

Currently, the answers you get are driven by the data that has been fed into it. ChatGPT aggregates information to give us an answer.

That said, it doesn’t currently have access to the internet to look up answers and it won’t know anything about current events. Here’s what happens…

ChatGPT

You can, however, add a Chrome extension that allows it to access the Internet. It’s a bit hit and miss, but you may have more success with that extension on.

It’s also been developed to respond to appropriate language (I tried swearing at it, and it didn’t like it). It won’t help you break the law and it should avoid controversy generally.

Fun Uses of ChatGPT

You’re limited by your imagination. I asked it to help me write a thoughtful holiday letter to my wife to express my gratitude.

ChatGPT

This is impressive! I won’t use it, though, I promise.

I had it tell me a joke about Facebook advertisers.

ChatGPT

Yeah, not funny. Let’s have it try again.

ChatGPT

I had it write a song about being a member of the Power Hitters Club. I made sure that it mentioned dragons, for no good reason.

ChatGPT

The song is so long that I can’t even display it all here.

You get the point. You can get it to do some hilarious, amazing things.

But What About Marketers?

Let’s ask ChatGPT how it might be able to help marketers.

ChatGPT

Customer support is a big one. Imagine a bot that doesn’t require you to follow a specific path and use only certain words. Presumably, it would get fed information from your website (or whatever data you want to give it) to answer customer questions.

It’s also good for generating ideas. Let’s ask for Facebook advertisers’ biggest challenges.

ChatGPT

I mean, dang. You can’t argue with that.

Let’s have ChatGPT generate three potential blog titles based on the content of this article. My question is this…

Generate three blog post ideas based on this content:

I then pasted in the content of this post. Here’s what we get…

ChatGPT

As someone who doesn’t pride himself on title writing, that’s pretty good!

While we’re at it, let’s have it generate a meta description.

ChatGPT

I’m not going to use that, but you get the point. I could have it try again until I get a description that I like — or it inspires the idea that I wanted.

I’ve also asked it for ideas regarding what to write about.

ChatGPT

And check out this answer when I asked for podcast guest ideas.

ChatGPT

That is pretty freaking amazing.

The Scary Stuff

It’s normal to immediately think of how this could be used for really bad stuff.

Students could have it write papers for them. Presumably, we’ll need tools that can automatically detect content that was written by bots (I’ve heard that this exists).

Want to start a marketing business? Build a website written entirely by a bot. You suddenly know what you’re talking about — or it seems that you do.

You could see how this type of technology, as it develops and improves, could impact copywriters and info-marketers. I know that the counterargument will be that content written by humans will be better, but will that always be the case? AI is getting better.

It’s also easy to see a form of this replacing Google Search (assuming Google isn’t creating its own version). If it becomes easier to get immediate access to the answer to your question, why go to another website? Could it destroy search referrals? Will an answer based on an aggregation of information provide all of the sources that contributed to that answer?

I won’t even get into all of the science fiction (turned potential reality) regarding AI owning AI and how it could get out of hand. This is way over my pay grade, but it sounds bad.

How to Approach This

Look, we’ve been heading this direction for years. It kinda snuck up on us (or at least those of us who weren’t paying close attention), and life is likely going to change pretty quickly.

The main thing is not to run from it. Instead of thinking about how this may eliminate our jobs, think about powerful ways that we can leverage this technology to make us better at those jobs.

If you’re going to resist this and hope it goes away, you’re likely in trouble. Prepare for it. Think about the ways you can leverage it. Consider how the ways that you provide value might change, but focus on the positive ways that will be the case.

A Couple of Resources

I am far from an expert on this topic. I just started learning about it myself.
