Our Data Protection team’s view is that we need consent from users to send their data via CAPI – as I understand it, you have to not only send the web events but also send some form of personal data for the matching process. This therefore falls under GDPR and needs consent. We’ve been advised that the best way to gain this consent is via a new option on our consent management platform (we can’t use the existing performance / functional / targeting cookie consents as it’s not cookie based) and therefore it’s likely to get a low opt in rate. I’d be really interested in your view on how to implement while navigating the data protection hurdles!
